A Place of Rest

A Place of Rest
An Exhibition by the Flagship Gallery members
September 13 – October 9, 2018

SuperCrawl, as the name suggests, is a wonderfully expanded version of the monthly Art Crawl, and this year promises so much to enjoy at Flagship and all around! From Thursday, Sept 13 until Sunday, Sept 16, James Street North is closed to car traffic and the streets are filled with visual art, music, fashion, performance, circus arts, vendors and food trucks. Our gallery members will exhibit work in the gallery and on the street with a church pew installation on the theme of “A Place of Rest”. Artists include Heidi Brannan, Amanda Fintelman, Wayne Hudson, Lisa Smouter, and James Tughan.

There are also some summer camp students who completed a bench and some more furniture this past summer. This was through Semaphore’s program called Firefleyes. Here you can see a few “in progress” pictures.

The theme of rest has been explored as a group by Flagship gallery members for the last while, but never quite to this degree. Taking a literal and metaphorical stance, we have used church pews as a canvas for expression.

We invite you to visit us this month, especially for the experience of the installation. Thank you to our generous sponsors and donors for the ability to complete this work.
